Essential Steps You Can Take to Lower Your Electric Bill

February 27, 2019 by pmxchris Leave a Comment

ct meterMore and more homeowners are engaging in efforts to improve their home’s efficiency and lower their monthly electric bill. With eco-friendly technologies leading the charge, there are more ways than ever to improve the efficiency of your home.

Here are some of the first steps you should take when you want to lower your electric bill and lead the eco-friendly charge in your neighborhood.

Step 1: Perform CT meter testing

Your CT meter, otherwise known as your current transformer meter, needs to be tested to give you a better idea of your home’s energy use. For example, your utility bill charges you based on the number of kilowatt-hours you use each month. Keep in mind that a measurement of one thousand watt-hours is the equivalent to 1 kilowatt-hour, expressed by kWh.

This transformer reading is a type of energy audit that can help give you an idea of your own energy usage. This is an essential first step before you start implementing changes in the name of home efficiency. Talk to your local electric meter technicians who have the proper equipment for testing energy meters. This way, you’ll get the most accurate CT meter testing performed.

Step 2: Identify points of mitigation

Before you blow your savings on new products, you should try to identify points in your household that can be fixed or repaired in order to mitigate the worst of your energy defects. This might include replacing old attic insulation in your home, but it might also include changing your everyday habits. Simply remembering to turn off the lights when you leave a room can save you more than you think.

Once you’ve addressed the affordable changes in your home, wait around a month before scheduling another energy audit. Your CT meter might read a little differently now that you’ve made these healthy changes in your home.

Step 3: Make new purchases

If you still want to improve your CT meter readings, rely on new purchases to replace old, outdated appliances. For example, an older refrigerator that needs to start up often is draining tons of electricity throughout the day. If your air conditioner is more than a decade old, it’s likely struggling to put out the same energy it used to.

You can also opt for LED lighting to replace your old incandescent bulbs. For the truly eco-friendly innovator, you can check out solar energy options as well when you upgrade your home’s electrical work.

When you want to make your home into an energy efficient abode, rely on Power Metrix for the best in CT testing and transformer testing equipment.
